Understand Mental Health and Societal Problems
Well-intentioned attempts to raise awareness can backfire when they rely on oversimplification and generalization. This is prevalent while trying to tackle a major problem society is dealing with.
"All women have or know a woman who has been raped." And "all men have or know a man who has been accused of harassment for strictly approaching a woman." Both previous statements are denied by the gender they make look bad, they vilified, as misandry/misogyny for a specific reason and there is a slight of truth to it.
These statements are designed to provoke strong reactions and highlight the tensions surrounding gender, power, and sexual violence, while the intent behind using "all" may be to highlight the seriousness of the problem, it ultimately hinders progress.
However, their use of absolutes undermines their credibility and contributes to further polarization, especially concerning mental traumas. It's well accepted and understood the mental effects sexual assault and violence have on a brain and but not false accusations. And that is why society accepts one of these statements but not the other, and why the other is attacked immediately without intent to understand it.
Being constantly falsely accused for being a certain sex or gender creates a toxic environment that can severely damage mental health, and these effects can be amplified for those with neurodivergencies.
False accusations can cause: anxiety, stress, depression, social isolation and withdrawal, a sense of injustice and violation, low self-esteem, lead one to question reality and perception, because a social trigger, C-PTSD, defensive personality, sensory sensitivity, emotional deregulation, impair executive function, impair cognitive function, create communication problems, create difficulties with social cues, burnout, and suicidal behaviors and tendencies.
It is very important to try to provide support for those who are experiencing this type of trauma. However, for men, they are considered weak by society if they display any of the mental health issues and symptoms from false accusations and the impacts those false accusations have on their lives. Double standards and sexism surrounding mental health must be combated and defeated.
