Suggestion For Repealing and Replacing The US Educational System
So after a conversation on higher learning, i was thinking. The American education system prioritizes capitalism over daily human life in society. On average, American adults use basic math skills equivalent to a 3rd-grade level and reading comprehension skills at a 6th-grade level. Notably, most Americans don't require advanced math and reading skills in their daily lives, regardless of their profession.
To better align education with societal needs, I propose a centralized system providing intelligence, personality, and career assessments after 6th grade. This would help determine which students should continue with advanced math and reading skills and assign them, while others could focus on other areas. Personalized learning paths would be created, allowing students to choose courses that interest them, with those career paths requiring less rigorous coursework having opportunities to more elective options.
Ultimately, this approach aims to create a more efficient education system that prepares students for their future roles in society with standardized testing and academic rigor for career paths, all paths require some training and expertise, regardless of intensity required. And the notion that this is only true for some career paths must be challenged. There are no unskilled jobs, to think otherwise is to promote division and a hierarchical structure.
By acknowledging that not everyone needs, wants, or is capable of pursuing advanced academic or professional careers, we can avoid wasting their time and energy. Instead, we can provide personalized pathways that cater to their interests and strengths. Additionally, this system allows those who don't or shouldn't pursue advanced careers to continue learning at higher levels in areas that interest them through electives, promoting lifelong learning, preventing stagnation, and fostering opportunities for personal growth and overachievement.
The American education system needs to be repealed and replaced with a system that reflects these changes built on realism, compassion, and support. While I believe this is possible, I don't have the expertise to design the specifics. I offer this suggestion, along with my reasoning, in the hopes that more knowledgeable experts can develop a detailed plan for implementation. And while this is geared towards America, I think all educational systems should be built around this correct idea.
